Drawing and Painting

Many years ago I pursued a degree in art. My primary are of interest at the time was sculpture, but an interest in painting and drawing developed. While studing abroad, in Germany during undergrad, I was fairly prolific with my drawing. Unfortunately a lot of that work was lost during the move back to the States, and what remained of that was further diminished over the years, whether from a lack of proper storage or from further moves to NYC. It is something I've enjoyed, and an old passion I want to rekindle as I find the time.

Sculpture

Originally I worked with clay and was interested in pursuing sculpture through the medium of cast synthetics, but at UofO I was introduced to metal casting, namely bronze and aluminum. As with my prior paintings and drawings, I have very little left of my sculptures. Ceramic pieces were lost in moves, some broken, and metal pieces were either given as gifts, or stolen while I was out studying in Germany. What I have left of the work are pieces that were intended for larger works. I kind of like them because they have an archeological aura about them.

Brewing

Craft brewing is something I've particpated in or done for many, many years, having first encountered it while traveling the country in the early '90s. While traveling at that time, I stayed with wome guys I'd met in Portland, OR, who were brewing in their apartment. I learned some of the process at that time, but it wasn't until many years later, while working as a bartender in a NYC craft beer bar, that I decided to start brewing myself. Two close friends and I began brewing in my apartment, experimenting with recipes, etc., with the fantasy of one day purchasing farmland upstate so we could start a hop farm and open our own nano/microbrewery.

Amateur Astronomy... Stargazing

When I was a child, shortly before Halley's Comet passed by, for Christmas I got a telescope. I used to stand in the middle of a fallow field in rural Florida, peering into night sky with the Milky Way splayed across the night sky. During the pandemic lockdown I started playing around with astrophotography. Very amateur at the moment, NYC's not great for it, and by no means is it the quality I want, but I'm deeply fascinated by the movements of the night sky. Seeing the Milky Way is humbling, and takes me back to my childhood.
